How To Fix The Top 5 Make Up Problems

How To Fix The Top Five Makeup Problems.JPG

Hi loves! Hope you’re all having a great week! Today I’m talking about common make up problems and how to fix them. If you’re having make up issues then just keep reading.

1. How to get the right foundation shade

I always used to guess my foundation colour or swatch it on my hand to find my correct shade, then I would wonder why my skin looked so different to me body! Getting the right shade and undertone for your skin is so important and I would say this is the step that had most improved my make up. If you go to pretty much any make up counter and ask for a foundation sample most places will colour match you for free so you get your exact shade. Better yet, you can take home a sample to try out to see if the formula works on your skin. It’s usually higher end brands that have these counters but the money you save on foundations that aren’t right for you make an investment in to a more expensive foundation completely worth it! Through trying out samples I have found my holy grail foundation, No. 7 Stay Perfect in Calico.

2. How to get sharp eyeliner

Getting that perfect sharp eyeliner takes any look from 0 to 100 but it’s so damn hard! This tip will sharpen up any look and make eyeliner so much easier. If you start your make up with your eyes, once you’ve finished your eyeshadow take a cotton pad with makeup remover or a make up wipe and fold it around a q tip. I use the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water for Combination Skin as it takes make up off well and doesn’t leave a film on my skin after cleaning up my shadow. Take the flat edge and drag it from the outer corner of your eye up towards the end of your eyebrow, imitating where your flick would go. Just clean up the edges a little and you have a perfect line to trace with your eyeliner. Having a line to trace makes doing the liner so much easier and having your shadow tie in perfectly makes a look so much more put together.

3. How to help blinding highlights blend

A beautiful blinding highlight can completely upgrade your looks and I am obsessed with them, but how do you stop it looking like a stripe of highlight on your face? Sometimes super pigmented highlights can be difficult to blend and ruin your flawless face make up. To help even the most blinding highlight looks beautifully blended I like to layer highlights. Start with a more natural highlight closer to your skin tone and apply it across your whole cheekbone with a fluffy highlight brush. Then take an in-between shade and apply this to the tops of your cheekbones with the same fluffy brush. Finally take your intense highlight and apply it to the tops of your cheekbones with a more precise blending blush. I love doing this with the Makeup Revolution Blush Goddess Palette as it has a great range of highlight shades from more natural to blinding.  You can use as many step ups as your like depending on how naturally you want it to blend. This can also be used with less intense highlights if you want to make your look natural as well as beautifully glowy.

4. How to stop foundation looking cakey

If you have dry skin or prefer thick foundations then you may be struggling with foundation looking cakey and not actually looking like skin. To any of you who have this issue, I feel your pain! I find foundation looking cakey on my cheeks no matter how much I moisturise. My holy grail product for making foundation look like skin again is the Body Shop Vitamin C Energising Face Mist. I use this as a setting spray to give my skin a beautiful glowy finish and set my foundation. Not only does the vitamin c make your skin look revitalised and fresh, but it also leaves your skin feeling hydrated.

5. How to stop lipstick going on patchy

Some lipsticks, especially nude lipsticks, are a beautiful colour swatched but when you apply it, it goes on patchy and the natural pigment of your lips peeks through. If you want to get a solid colour from your lip products and a more vivid colour payoff, add a base first. A nude lip primer or a thin layer of foundation on your lips will neutralise their natural colour and create an even base for your lip products to stick to. This will give you’re a solid wash of colour with any lip product. With difficult lipsticks I use my everyday foundation and then go over with the NYX Lip Primer in Nude to help the product really adhere to my lips.
